A Brief History of Savage Fabrication

Savage Fabrication/ Insta Spool Performance is a Family business that i started in 2015 as a Sole Proprietor. As of 2020 it is now a two person shop including me and my brother. we work 5 days a week and i work seven days a week to take care of orders to the best of our ability. yes this shop is ran by just two people haha.
The History of Savage Fab and Inst Spool: ill be honest i never intended for this to become a thing. I went to College for Chemical Engineering and during this i took some courses in welding. I caught on quickly and soon had passed all of the courses at my college and became certified in structural work. I got hired Full time at a Agricultural job shop and during this phase picked up a tig welder and a tube bender to build my own desert truck. While working at the job shop doing everything from heavy repair to heavy fabrication i started doing side work for a off shore heavy fishing boat manufacture doing all of their stainless and aluminum work. during this phase i invested everything i had into a used broken plasma table that i repaired over the next few months into a working machine. After 2 years at the job shop things became repetitious vs learning and i was given the opportunity to be full time at the boat shop. i took the job, after 2 years the boat shop owner ran it into the ground and i was left to make a decision to pursue Savage Fabrication or to go back to te job shop. I took the leap of Faith, believing in what this could become and started Savage Fabrication and the web-store Insta Spool Performance. Insta spool had been alive for some time but was only a side gig. now making it a main focus product development and r and d became critical. after saving for several years, i was able to go get a dynojet 224x chassis dyno. at this time i had already run on several chassis dynos and did not believe the dyno's to be correct as i had everything that the forums said i needed for 600 whp meanwhile i seemed to be stuck at a super hot, smokey, laggy, 364 whp. Having my own chassis dyno i soon had to accept the fact that the dyno was correct and i was wrong and i needed to start studying why my setup was not working. this was the beginning of the custom turbocharger. i modified my borg warner s366 turbo to the point where i had tried everything and i was still not where i wanted to be. using rare turbine housings, paired with a few different turbine wheel sizes. the next step was to look towards a completely different design. from here i started doing modded he351cw's and hx35/40's. at this point i started to notice the patterns to turbo design and what we are seeing on the dyno, not just the numbers but the gauge data, and the shape of the curves/ the distance between the peak powers hp/tq.
we tried several hx turbine wheels and found only one to do what i wanted, support hp, control egt's, allow max compressor capacity, maintain a high efficiency at high pressures, and not give up the response time that i am looking for in a turbo. that is the 76/67 ten blade turbine wheel. the draw back to this is that the hx customers and borg sxe customers were stuck doing a he swap to get into the 9cm housing. in November 2019 we fixed that. The super hero turbo Line up was born when i went out on a limb, knowing i have had good luck welding external gates to the cast iron housings we took it to the extreme removing both the chra flange and outlet flange and welding in new parts which get post worked afterwords to create the most insane near factory turbo charger currently on the market for performance diesel. the HX Super Hero and the HE Super Hero. the line up has brought torque back to our trucks without giving up the spool up like the competition.
what we make gets re invested into better tooling and test equipment to continue to build better products every day for our customers. this is just a short bit of the story and i would love to get to help you out from our tappet covers and spring gates to the insane Super Hero Turbos. every part on the web-store is made here by hand. there are no drop shipped or third party/ re sold parts. we care about what we make to the point its hard to see it go out at time because we want to keep every part haha.
